The Tortoise & The Hare Ice Sculpture for Book Across The Bay

On February 15, 2016, Narda's latest ice sculpture was featured in an article on the front page of the Ashland Daily Press.

Aided by a group of volunteers from the Chequamegon Bay Arts Council who froze blocks and blocks of ice over several weeks,

Narda and friends completed her design 'The Tortoise & The Hare' near the starting line for this year's annual Book Across The Bay.

The Book is an evening cross-country ski race across frozen Chequamegon Bay from Ashland to Washburn. Thousands of entrants follow the luminaria-lit course which ends at a big party tent where there is food, music and fun.

Artists’ Quest for Color Beats the Winter Blues

On February 5, 2016, Narda was featured in an online article in the Ashland Daily Press about three local artists whose work helps beat the winter blues.

Another bay area artist, Leonarda Boughton from Ashland, takes a different approach to winter.

’Last year, as a sheer act of survival, I started making ice sculptures. I decided I needed a new way to enjoy (or get through) the sub-zero temps. First, they started as ice water balloons. Then, came the color and now some paintings. I plan on creating an ice sculpture of some kind for the CBAC tent for the Book Across the Bay this year. Stay tuned,’ she said last week.

Boughton, who’s primarily an oil painter, is currently developing a solo exhibit to be shown at the Bell Street Gallery on Madeline Island from June 18 – July 2.
